THE MAIDSTONE SINGERS in ‘CALL THE MIDWIFE’ – Photos

The Maidstone Singers appeared in the final episode of series 3 of ‘Call the Midwife’ on Sunday 9th March 2014 on BBC 1 as part of the ‘Poplar Choral Society’. They sang a version of ‘May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You’, arranged by Jeffrey Vaughan Martin, in the touching finale to the series.

Although their appearance was brief, the choir had tremendous fun recording the music and dressing up for the filming. The show has won accolades for its hairdressing and costumes and is broadcast around the world with a UK audience in excess of 10 million.

You can listen to a performance of the song that they sang in the 2013/14 Reviews section of this website. This recording was made at the Singers’ Spring Concert at St Mary’s Church, West Malling on Saturday 15th March.

Members of the choir were selected for their thespian talents and striking stage presence as well as for their wonderful singing and the fact that most of them can remember the 1950s of course:
